My first week in the US
Today I’ve been here in the US for a week, and I thought it was time I wrote an update.
The trip over here went without any problems, and when I got off the plane in Grand Rapids, my host mother stood by the baggage conveyors with a sign with my name on it. The rest of the family wasn’t home at the moment, so the house was pretty quiet when we got there. That evening I went straight to bed — I was quite tired after having traveled for 23 hours.
The next day we went to see a football game (American football, of course). The game was between Jenison (the school I will be going to) and Catholic Central (the school my host sister goes to). I didn’t really understand the rules of the game, but it was fascinating to watch nonetheless.
Sunday morning we went to church, and then we headed for Grand Haven, a beautiful beach by Lake Michigan. The weather was great, and we had a nice day at the beach.
Tuesday I met with a counselor at my school, and I chose the subjects I’m going to have when school starts Tuesday next week. The subjects I chose are:
- America at War
- Physical Education (Team Sports)
- Precalculus and Discrete Mathematics
- Java Programming (
) - Physics
- Psychology
The second semester I’m going to have Economics instead of America at War.
Today we’re leaving for Ohio to visit my oldest host brother, who’s currently going to college in Miami, Ohio.
My laptop stopped working on Saturday, so I can’t show you any photos yet. Thankfully I can get the laptop fixed under its warranty at a repair shop here in Grand Rapids, so I’ve dropped it off there. I hope the repair won’t take too long.
My first week in the US has been great, and I hope the rest will be too. ![]()

Hei Vegard!
Skriv på norsk jeg!;)
Så morro å lese om din første uke ‘over there’!

Have fun!
