Our trip to London

Last week I spent six days in London with my family. Our plane from Norway arrived at Stansted Airport Sunday afternoon. We took the train to London, checked in at the hotel, and later on went for a walk in Hyde Park, which was located just down the street from the hotel.

On Monday we purchased tickets for the Big Bus Company sightseeing buses, and joined the tour that passed by amongst other Marble Arch, Madame Tussauds, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, etc. We got off the bus by the Big Ben and went on a Thames river cruise from Westminster Bridge to the Tower of London. After that we had a look around at the Tower of London for a couple of hours, after which we joined a sightseeing bus again for the rest of the route.

On Thursday we went to the Harrods shopping centre, and we also visited the Nature History Museum. On Wednesday we had planned to visit the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, but when we got there it turned out that the museum was closed until 2007 for upgrades. However, the Covent Garden Piazza was nearby, so we had a look around there instead. After that, we went to the Science Museum, which had lots of cool exhibitions, amongst others “Computing: a history”, “Telecommunications”, and lots more. Fun. :)

We had to check out from the hotel Thursday morning, as we were going to stay at the hotel at Stansted Airport the last night because our plane left very early in the morning. However, we were allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel to pick it up later, so we took the opportunity to go to Oxford Street. One word; crowded. :P

When we had taken the train back to Stansted and checked in at the hotel, I discovered a pleasant surprise; the hotel offered free internet access for the guests. I had my tablet PC with me, so the stay at the airport didn’t turn out as dull as I had imagined it would be. :P

During our stay the weather was really hot, at least by Norwegian standards. We had about 30 degrees Celsius every day and a clear sky. Quite a lot of bottles of water were consumed in those six days. :P I might add that traveling with the Underground with those temperatures was a quite unpleasant experience. :P

The hot weather despite, we had a great week in London! :D
