18:00	KRIPOS seminar

I’ve now arrived at The Gathering, and got my computer and eveything set up. Not much happens here today, except for the opening show and a few seminars.

KRIPOS (the Norwegian criminal investigation service) is hosting a seminar at 18:00, I think it’s about piracy and stuff, and a two-part seminar called “Demomaking for dummies” starts at 23:00. I think I’ll attend both. Also, I’ve created an album in the gallery with pictures from the party, so keep an eye out there.

Update 01:13 (Thursday): I’ve now been at the KRIPOS seminar, the opening show and the two “Demomaking for dummies” seminars.

The KRIPOS seminar was mostly a kind of presentation about their computer crime unit and what kind of investigation they do. The other participants asked a lot of questions about piracy, gaining access to unsecured wireless networks etc., but the KRIPOS guys couldn’t give any definite answers to any of the questions, probably because none of these issues have been brought up in the Norwegian courts yet.

The “Demomaking for dummies” seminars were quite interesting, and everything from the very basics to advanced effects like bloom and shaders were covered. They used surprisingly small amounts of code yo achieve most of the effects, and they’re going to release the whole presentation, source code, libraries and everything you’d need to create demos.
